Express Scribe, which is free, is one program a lot of people use. The web site for Express Scribe is

Two other free programs you can use to play audio files are FTR Player and The Record Player, from

Transcription Buddy, which costs $39, is available from
http://www.highcriteria.com.

Another product is Start-Stop, from
http://www.startstop.com. Start Stop also has software available to play video files.
